Delhi Capitals (DC) vs Gujarat Titans (GT) Pitch Report:
The surface at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi is typically a slower one; the side batting first would look for a high total due to the quick outfield. Spinners could take advantage of the slow pitch, but it is expected to be a batter-friendly surface, and a high-scoring thriller can be expected.

Delhi Capitals (earlier Daredevils) stumbled in the semi-finals in the first two seasons, and in the playoffs in 2012 and 2019. They made the title round for the first time in 2020, where they lost to Mumbai Indians. They made it almost as far in 2021 too, topping the table in the league stage, but then lost both their playoffs to crash out.

History
Capitals have been underachievers in the IPL, though they started strongly. They also made the playoffs and finished third after topping the table at the end of the group stage in 2012, but finished last in 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2018.

In December 2018 the franchise was rebranded as Delhi Capitals, and the change of name seemed to bring a change of fortune too - they made the playoffs in 2019, and in 2020, got to the final for the first time with a largely young team. In 2021 they made the playoffs again after finishing top of the league table.

Though they seem a side that has found stability in recent years, with a focus on youth, in hindsight, some of the choices they made when building their squads might have hurt them. In 2008, they didn't pursue Virat Kohli strongly, the logic being that they had Virender Sehwag, Shikhar Dhawan, Gautam Gambhir, Tillakaratne Dilshan and AB de Villiers in their ranks.

Then, after three years with the team, which included lots of runs and competent leadership in the 2010 season, Gambhir was released. Kohli, of course, has never won the IPL with Royal Challengers Bangalore, but he has been one of top performers in the competition over the years, while Gambhir led Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL titles. The list of players Delhi have let go over the years includes de Villiers, Andre Russell, Trent Boult, and more recently, Shreyas Iyer, Kagiso Rabada and Avesh Khan.

The highs
Delhi had good years in 2008 and 2009, when they made the semi-finals, and though they got to the final in 2020, their best seasons were arguably 2012, when they won 11 of their 16 league matches, and 2021, when they won ten out of 14. In 2012, Sehwag, Mahela Jayawardene and Kevin Pietersen made over 300 runs each (Sehwag made 495); and Morne Morkel and Umesh Yadav took 44 wickets between them. In 2021, young Avesh Khan finished second on the list of wicket-takers for the tournament, with 24.

Gujarat Titans
Captain: Hardik Pandya
Coach: Ashish Nehra
Home ground: Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad
IPL titles: 1 (2022)
Owners: CVC Capital Partners

Gujarat Titans were one of two new teams introduced ahead of the 2022 season. CVC Capital Partners won the franchise bid for Rs 5625 crore (approx US$750 million). They picked Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill ahead of the 2022 auction. Pandya was named captain. Ashish Nehra was appointed head coach, Gary Kirsten mentor and batting coach, and Vikram Solanki director of cricket.

2022 - champions
Titans became only the second team after Rajasthan Royals to win the title in their first season. They topped the league stage, with ten wins from 14 games, then beat Royals in Qualifier 1 to make the final, where they again defeated Royals on their home ground, in front of 104,859 spectators.
